… is, apparently, great for productivity. Even if I can’t give out any of the results just yet.
Last post, I showed images of a way-over-poly-budget Bedford QL and a slightly mysterious airfield which, if you zoomed in enough, you might have seen was RAF Hunsdon, from where Operation Jericho was launched. Things have moved on since then.
Having had its poly count slashed, I now have the parts to make enough Beford QLs to confuse the heck out of anyone. Also, I have the drawings to make even more and may well do so. It’s in the paintshop, but I’ve had to actually resort to four letters to describe it (e.g. gsfc: General Service, Frame, Cupola) seeing as I have a pickup body, cabs both with and without the commander’s cupola, a frame to go over the pickup body, a canopy to go over the pickup body, a refueller body, which is what I actually set out to create originally, and a partially complete FFR (“Fitted for Radio”) caravan-style body. If you want to know what the latter looks like, check out the Battle of Britain film – there’s one in the background, more than a little out of period, but probably as close as they could get, when the Hurricane Squadron abandons their French forward airfield.
Moving on to Hunsdon, I got the ARP from the RAF Museum (thanks as ever to them for their help) and didn’t have a bunch of the buildings. I also discovered that Hunsdon was well known for having far more aerodrome defences than really seemed necessary.
So. Yeah. I had to.
The current list of new structures I’ve added is as follows, from memory:
- Type 22 Pillbox. (Normal)
- Type 22 Pillbox (Hunsdon “Massive” type)
- Cantilever Pillbox (“A challenge”!)
- AA Gun Pit (I’ll come back to this…)
- Ministry of Supply Living Hut (“Thorn Hut”)
- Ministry of Supply Maycrete Hut
- M&E Plinth
- 30′ x 10′ TB Latrines/Ablutions
- 30′ x 20′ TB Drying Rooms
- 20′ x 18′ TB Hut (Battery Charging Hut)
- Balloon Filling Hut (Tiny TB building)
- 24′ x 48′ Nissen Hut
- 18′ x 36′ Handcraft Hut
- 40′ x 18′ Timber Type A Hut
- 30′ x 10′ Timber Type B Hut
- 20′ x 10′ Timber Type B Hut
- 3500 Gallon Surface Tank
- 1000 Gallon Surface Tank
- 500 Gallon Surface Tank
- 10′ x 15′ Steel Store (Gas Equipment Store)
OK. That last one is a bit of sarcasm – it’s actually a Motor Transport Petrol Pump, but…
I’ll try and get at least an All-in-One update done, so that anyone who wants to can grab Bob and go for a wander around this lot, because I haven’t even started on a SODE file yet, let alone added vehicles and clutter. I haven’t even done station ID letters for it yet and I have to do P.A.C. launchers and.. and…
Oh. Yes. I said I’d come back to the Anti Aircraft Gun Pit. This is literally, right now, just a pit with a post in the middle. An accurate pit with a post in the middle, admittedly, but it doesn’t have any guns. The idea is that, when I work out exactly how I’m going to do it, I’ll put SODE guns and gunners in, so they’ll turn to track your every move and make sure you don’t try to blow anything up.
