Right. You might have seen the Tweet, you might not, but this place is now showing no red alerts and no yellow “issues” again on the dashboard panels. That took some minor fiddling in the background to achieve.

Apologies for the new Cookie Permissions / Personal Data bar – as if trying to keep track of US and EU law wasn’t hard enough, a couple of US states have decided that if I want to exist, I have to obey their law as well, or else. It just means you need to accept a new pop-up. Sorry.

Now I guess that I can go back to trying to convert my entire objects library to PBR-like materials for MSFS, which is what I’ve been doing. 140 down, far too many more to go.

Nope. It’s a Bitsillythis.

OK. So. Apparently every single service that can scan a website says that mine is clean… Except Bitdefender. Only Bitdefender.

I’ve reported it to them and their automated system says they’ll do ‘something’ within the next 72 hours. Guess we wait and see what that is…

So, yesterday, this entire site, the mail server and everything else did a quick hop, skip and jump from its home on a piece of very old hardware to a shiny new(er) server, giving much more control over what can and can’t happen – including the fact that it now has its own, personal, not shared in the slightest, SSL certificate. No more “Not Secure” logo at the top left of you browser window. No more warnings about “invalid certificates and messages that I’m trying to “steal your information” (that you shouldn’t be trying to enter anyway…)

Just need to test it against Bitdefender now, then maybe I can release the other scenery I have waiting to go?

AV (Bit)defending a “Bit” Too Well

I’m aware of a problem that users of Bitdefender Free AntiVirus can’t get to the site at present. This appears to be because BitDefender – and only BitDefender – identifies apparently any JavaScript file within the new WordPress v5 installation as being malicious.

I may have only got four replies to the previous post, but the generosity of those four people means that the website is now registered and hosting paid for another two years.

With no replacement for FSX on the horizon still (Don’t tell me that P3D is a direct replacement for FSX. It isn’t.) then it looks like I’ll be continuing to support the old fogey of a sim for some time yet, although I do now have the SDK for P3Dv4 available to me and am also looking at XP11 as a future platform – if I can work out its ‘somewhat unique’ scenery design tools. I’ll also continue trying to update/create sceneries for new WW2 aircraft releases, even though I won’t be buying any of them for the forseeable future. I suppose I should resurrect the “WiP List” that the old site had, although it would be even messier now than it was then!

I’ve only got four updates since my last post: I’ve added a B.1 hangar plus two of the remaining buildings from Halfpenny Green (which are also of use for some other places. I’ve also finally figured out what a Hispano 20mm gun pit looked like and am looking at what I can do to improve another scenery and get it compiled natively for P3Dv4. That’s a Spitfire one, for the Accu-Sim P3D Spitfire I/II, which I don’t have a copy of yet, either!

For anyone interested in the site who uses Facebook, I’ve once again done what Facebook told me to* and have set up a Group called “The Mess”. It’s a closed group – meaning that you have to request access rather than anyone can just join it – and I really have no idea whether anyone wants it or will use it, but it’s there. I accidentally added Francois from FSAddon to the group when setting it up, but otherwise, there’s just me there right now, so there’s plenty of room at the bar.

* If it’s free and requires little to no effort, why not? 😉

…and the “Donate” button is back

Yep, it’s back and nope, you don’t have to click it unless you want to, but the little PayPal “donate” button has made an appearance over there in the sidebar.

All the site’s content is and will remain free to download – it’s a requirement of a number of the development tools I use, if nothing else. However, I still do have to pay bills and it’s nice on occasion to be able to afford a new FS add-on or a new sim to poke and prod at. If you feel that what I create has value to you then please press the little button. It’s very much appreciated!

And we’re on to Mk.IV…
