Things aren’t quite as bad as I feared with my never-ending rendition of the 1940s RAF Halfpenny Green (EGBO).
I’ve managed to resurrect the “master” Blender file, which had all but 89 buildings on it. That sounds a lot, but out of 269, it means that 180 were there. Every single material and texture in the master was broken, but a few hours later, that’s both fixed and rather improved, with one single material now applied to any building that uses a common texture sheet.
The missing building count is now down 26, to 63. Some of those are modelled, it’s just that they’re not on the “master” yet. About a dozen of them I have no idea what they looked like anyway, so educated guesswork is required for those.
If anyone is reading this… Send tea and chocolate. I need it!
Which buildings are you missing Ian? I’ll look for images. Long shot but you never know.
You may be lucky with the Cinema (the ruin opposite the now almost as derelict MT sheds), but I don’t think you’re going to find much on the Sick Quarters, Airmens’ Institute, Sergeants’ Bath House or a number of the other timber buildings that were built to long since lost local drawing numbers, unfortunately.
When I spoke to Brian, the Operations Manager, about this stuff, he has never been aware of anyone finding anything, anywhere of the local drawings in spite of a number of people looking. I’ve also been through all the usual suspects such as AIS, DoRIS and ARG, I’ve never actually tried Staffordshire County Archives, but that seems… A long shot doesn’t come close to covering the odds!
If you email me the reference numbers from the airfield plan I’ll take a look. No need for the raf xxxx/40 type numbers just the airfield specific reference. We can use our existing email exchange.
